Beauty queen and daring actress Dindi Gallardo is enjoying this kind of life right after she quit the showbiz industry.
Dindi, or Melinda Joanna Gallardo in real-life, joined the Binibining Pilipinas back in 1993 and won. In the same year, she had the chance to represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe competition in Mexico City.
That opened an opportunity for her to do some acting stints. She did several movies including Dyesebel (1996), Nang iniwan mo ako (1997), and Katawan (1999). Dindi also became of the daring actresses during the 90s.
Based on the previous articles, the former actress chose to go to San Francisco to pursue fashion design and merchandising. However, because of her dream of finding her “soul-search,” she went to Europe and eventually agreed to stay in New York in 2003.
Luckily, she got a job as an artist’s assistant. She said in an interview,
“I quit Buchwald to get another job with a bigger production company. But it didn’t happen. I was really upset. Then boom, this job fell on my lap. I didn’t even know who (my future boss) was. We clicked so well. I got promoted two times. We’re about to film a big, big film with a full cast.”
Dindi also shared that her boss had no idea she was a celebrity in the Philippines. This was only revealed to her manager when some Filipinos asked her for an autograph. The former actress was married to Eric Mills, a restaurant and bar consultant in L.A.
There are also reports in 2012 that she had brought a racial prejudice lawsuit against her employer Frank Miller, the producer of The Dark Knight, and his partner Kimberly Cox.
She had her showbiz comeback in 2015 with “Dahlin Nick,” a documentary drama about the life and work of Nick Joaquin, the National Literature Artist, where she played the role of former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
Based on her social media posts, Dindi Gallardo had an acting stint in 2018 in the Kapamilya drama show Ipaglaban Mo and in the defunct afternoon series The Blood Sisters.
